Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said the libraries serve as lifeline for the development of nations and West has made a tremendous progress in all fields with the help of well-maintained libraries.
He said Muslims were the torchbearers of knowledge and they had established many libraries. He said traditional methods could not cope with the onslaught of information and we have to adopt latest techniques to tackle this problem. He said the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has provided generous financial assistance to revamp libraries and introduce the digital technology. He asked the library administration to provide all leading international newspapers and periodicals to students to make the library more attractive for them. He announced a cash prize of Rs 50,000 for the experts and students for introducing digital system in the library.
Chief Librarian Chaudhry Muhammad Hanif said the university experts and students have developed software for computerisation of the library by using their own resources. He said the library has an edge over other libraries as it has computerised data in different languages.
